  Experience, experience, experience! You want a podiatrist with experience. My jaw almost dropped when Dr. Levin displayed the x-ray of my 17-year-old son’s foot, pointed to the metatarsal that was too long, pointed to the sesamoid bones that were out of alignment and stated that a bunionectomy would address the underlying mechanical issue causing the “turf-toe” pain that my son had been experiencing for over a year. We had initially seen another podiatrist and an orthopedic surgeon in downtown Chicago, but Dr. Levin was the first to point out the issue. He humbly stated that the conservative measures (stiff shoe, stiff boot, orthotics, steroid shot in the joint) recommended and used by the others were within treatment guidelines but that only a bunionectomy would address the issue. We proceeded with the bunionectomy (on both feet 9 months apart), and my son can now enjoy the physical activities that he used to participate in. Plus, Dr. Levin is a genuinely pleasant, caring and sociable person, as are the others on his staff.

  I was taken back when I brought my son in for a simple ingrown toenail and was asked to pay $350 upfront before being treated. I was told that I would receive a refund when the claim was processed by my insurance should there be a refund to give. This was back in Nov of 2016. My life is hectic and my schedule full but while going through medical expenses for my son I realized I never received anything about the processing of this claim. I called the office and they received payment from my insurance and my contribution was just my $10 co-pay. They had neglected to refund my remaining $340 to me for over 4 months! I believe they had no intention of sending me that refund and wonder how many other people neglect to inquire if they are due a refund? I have spoken to other physicians and surgeons and all state that payment before treatment is not only bad customer services but also unethical! I give 2 stars as my sons removal was done with professionalism and skill but they need major assistance in their billing and customer service departments.
